Among many things, Laura talked about what motivated her to begin painting after losing her sight.
Laura has appeared on Mark’s program before via Skype, but this time she was live in the studio in the Big Apple before heading to the Elton John farewell concert at Madison Square Gardens in the evening.

Mark is a great host, and lives with visual impairment. He is also a well-known vocal advocate for preventing addiction, bullying and suicide and is frequently booked to present Keynotes and workshops at schools and businesses, as well as emceeing events across the country. Art route Nisseward 2018 Part 2
Art route Nissewaard is an annual event where visitors can view the work of local artists and their guests. They not only show their work, but also sell it. Also with a lot of enthusiasm explanations are given and sometimes demonstrated. This can take place both indoors and outdoors, depending on the location, the type of work and the weather of course! This Art route is also an excellent opportunity to orientate you on a possible course or workshop to be attended by one of the participants.

Kunstroute Nissewaard is een jaarlijks terugkerend evenement waarbij bezoekers het werk van locale kunstenaars en hun eventuele gasten kunnen bekijken. Zij stellen hun werk niet alleen ten toon, maar verkopen het ook. Ook wordt er met veel enthousiasme uitleg gegeven en soms gedemonstreerd. Dit kan zowel binnen als buiten plaatsvinden, afhankelijk van de locatie, het soort werk en het weer natuurlijk! Deze Kunstroute is tevens een gelegenheid bij uitstek om u te oriënteren op een eventueel te volgen cursus of workshop bij een van de deelnemers.

TV viewers in the Netherlands were able to watch a feature about Laura and her paintings which which aired on Talpa TV’s 5 Uur Live on the RTL 4 Network. You can watch the video below. Sometimes Laura likes working on a canvas on the floor, and other times on an easel – it just depends on the inspiration.

Toen ze 27 (Ed. 41) was, werd kunstenares Laura Meddens blind. Toch is ze weer gaan schilderen, en nu exposeert ze haar schilderijen tot 3 januari in de Amstelkerk.
Toen ze haar zicht verloor, dacht Laura dat ze nooit meer tentoonstellingen kon gaan maken. Toch is ze, dankzij het enthousiasme van haar dochter, weer gaan schilderen. ‘Ik had een beeld in mijn hoofd en dat heb ik geprobeerd op het doek te krijgen. Dat is redelijk gelukt’, zegt ze.
Geen belemmering
Ze moet alles op intuïtie doen en krijgt hulp van anderen met het klaarleggen van de kleuren. Haar handicap is geen belemmering in haar werk, zegt ze. ‘Vroeger dacht ik dat een blind persoon niets kon zien. Het grappige is dat ik heel kleurrijke beelden in mijn hoofd heb, en die schilder ik na.’
Beethoven deed dat net zo, zegt ze. ‘Hij componeerde muziek. Toen hij later doof werd, maakte hij vanuit zijn ‘inner ear’ de mooiste stukken. Dat gevoel heb ik ook. Toen ik schilderde en nog kon zien, was het niet zo goed. Nu ik niet meer zie, vind ik dat ik hele aardige stukken maak. Ik denk zelfs dat dit mijn beste stukken zijn.’
